A Midnight Encounter

Moon was gleaming through the fog
tinting all the world in gray,
much brighter than a night should be,
still there wasn't lot to see,
but so much darker than a day.

Wandering there through the mists
I was sunken deep in thought,
when suddenly a scream I hear,
cutting sharply through my ear,
that human voice could've never brought.

And inside the croaking haze
echoed loud a frantic moan,
as in an eye blink something white,
like the full moons purest light,
appeared beside me, made me frown.

So I looked into the gloom
fearing what leaves nightly trails,
and there it stood, looked back at me,
graceful in its majesty,
with eyes out of forgotten tales.

Staring there out of the dust
right into my stumbling heart,
was nothing more than just a Raven,
nothing less, I thought so craven,
which could have been a piece of art.

As I faced the ancient being
memories of Poe arise,
so I whispered into silence,
afraid to wake the singing sirens,
"Are you a bird or in disguise?"

Then I approached the silent beast,
spellbound by its purity,
no answer came out of the beak,
I also had no words to speak,
but it brought back my sanity.

Suddenly a wind starts whistling
and I heard a faeries song,
woven from my soul and heartbeat
into the line where earth and sky meet,
and with the fog the bird was gone.
